Floating the Boise River

Floating the Boise, Idaho River

Floating the Boise River in Boise, Idaho is a popular summer activity for both locals and tourists alike. Located in the heart of the city, the Boise River offers a refreshing and leisurely way to beat the heat and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

One of the best ways to experience the Boise River is by floating down it on a raft or inner tube. Many rental companies offer a variety of options, including single and double tubes, rafts, and even stand-up paddleboards. Before setting out on your float, be sure to stop by a rental shop to get all the necessary equipment and safety gear, such as a personal flotation device (PFD) and a waterproof bag to keep your belongings safe and dry.

The Boise River float begins at Barber Park, a popular launch site located just a few miles east of downtown Boise. From here, you’ll begin your journey downstream, passing through a series of gentle rapids and calm stretches of water as you make your way through the city. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to take in the stunning views of the Boise Foothills and the lush vegetation that lines the riverbanks.

As you float downstream, you’ll encounter a number of landmarks and points of interest. One of the most popular is the Boise Whitewater Park, a man-made feature that consists of a series of channels and waves designed for recreational use. Here, you can try your hand at surfing or just relax and watch the action from the safety of your raft or inner tube.

As you continue your journey, you’ll also have the chance to stop and take a break at a number of public parks and beaches located along the river. These spots are the perfect place to stretch your legs, have a snack, or take a quick swim to cool off. Just be sure to follow all posted rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

After a few hours of floating, you’ll eventually arrive at the take-out point at Ann Morrison Park. From here, you can either return your rental equipment and head back to your starting point, or make arrangements to be shuttled back to Barber Park.

Floating the Boise River is a great way to spend a summer day in Boise. Whether you’re a seasoned river rat or a first-time floater, the Boise River has something to offer everyone. Just be sure to follow all safety guidelines, respect the environment, and have fun!
