New to the City of Trees? How Boise ‘grew’ into its nickname.

One feature of Boise that makes it so appealing and livable is the vast array of beautiful trees. Boise boasts an estimated 250,000 trees within the city limits alone! However, as you admire the spring blossoms that line streets like Harrison Boulevard or Warm Springs Avenue, it is interesting to note that it took many years for Boise to earn its nickname. Early settlers began planting trees in the late 1800’s in order to provide shade in what was otherwise a mostly dry sagebrush plain. The time and effort paid off, and now Boise can truly own the title as the City of Trees.
